In a landmark move to champion computer science education, the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Philippines is thrilled to announce the formation of its first-ever Advocacy Team. This dynamic group is poised to spearhead initiatives that will significantly impact how technology and computational thinking are woven into the fabric of Philippine education. Leading the charge is CSTA Philippines Vice President, Ma’am Jess Demegillo, whose extensive background as a teacher, school administrator, EdTech coach, technology integrator, and innovation specialist at Xavier School San Juan, makes her the perfect fit to guide this pioneering team.
In a pivotal meeting that signals a promising future for computer science education in the Philippines, officers from the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Philippines had the honor of meeting with Ms. Doyeon Kim, the esteemed Head of Partnerships for the Asia-Pacific region at Code.org, on April 6, 2024. This significant encounter marks the beginning of what is hoped to be a fruitful collaboration aimed at enhancing CS education across the nation.
 
Doyeon Kim, whose remarkable career spans across technology, education, and the nonprofit sector, brings to the table a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to empowering educators and students alike. With a background that includes a tenure at IBM, alongside founding educational and women's empowerment organizations in the US and APAC, Ms. Kim's leadership at Code.org has been instrumental in driving partnerships that support and promote computer science education globally.
The vibrant city of Iloilo is set to host a landmark event that marks a significant leap in educational technology and innovative teaching methodologies. The MATATAG Express, driven by the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) Philippines, is rolling into town for its second caravan stop, bringing with it the promise of a new era in teaching through blocks-based programming. This event, dubbed "NextGen Iloilo," is poised to equip educators with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate and thrive in the digital age.
